Maryborough Hail: Smashed Windows, Roofs and Fallen Trees
A supercell crossed Maryborough on the evening of 2 November 2026. It had already dropped 10 cm hail at Glenwood, 50 km south-west, before reaching town (HSC and Brisbane Times, Nov 26). What fell on Maryborough was smaller: about 3 cm at Granville, 25–40 mm near the hospital.

Key points
10 cm hail fell at Glenwood, 50 km south-west, before the storm reached town (HSC and Brisbane Times, Nov 26).
About 3 cm was observed at Granville, 25–40 mm near the hospital.
Trees down, windows smashed and roof sheeting punctured across the area.
The storm's path north from Tiaro
At 6:05 pm Higgins Storm Chasing placed the supercell near Tiaro, moving north toward Maryborough (HSC, Nov 26). By 6:15 pm Bauple had over 40 mm of rain and marble-sized hail. At 6:25 pm Maryborough could see it coming but had not been hit. By 7:19 pm hail covered the ground and flash flooding ran through town.
The Bureau had warnings in place for Wide Bay and Burnett that evening. Senior forecaster Angus Hines warned of “significant damage” from large hail, wind and flash flooding (ABC, Nov 26).
What broke: trees down, windows smashed, roof sheeting punched through
Higgins Storm Chasing reported large trees down, windows smashed and flyscreens shredded (HSC, Nov 26). One household lost a two-year-old polycarbonate gazebo roof; another had holes punched through garage alsynite. Clear roof sheeting fails visibly, while a metal roof can be dented with nothing obvious from the ground.
Maryborough, Granville, Tinana, Bidwill and surrounding Fraser Coast suburbs
It was not the same storm on every street
The footprint was uneven. Aldershot and Oakhurst reported no hail at all, and Urangan was missed. One Maryborough resident described “a bit of hail but mostly rain”. Others in the same town were hammered.
One widely shared image shows what look like icebergs in a road. The photographer confirmed the clumps formed because the road flooded. Hail does not need to be giant to bruise or puncture a roof.
Not sure what your roof copped?
Rebuild Relief offers free roof inspections for homeowners with metal roofs, to help you understand the condition of your roof after the hailstorm. If we find hail damage, we can manage your home insurance claim for you.

| Radar versus ground | Ground observations take precedence | Radar swathe data is used for which suburbs the storm crossed. Where radar size estimates conflict with an observation on the ground, the observation is reported. | HailTracker Summer Hail (Witt 1998) swathe archiveHailTracker ↗ |
| Resident accounts | Attributed, not generalised | Individual reports of damage, hail size and power loss describe one property each and are not totals for a suburb. | Higgins Storm ChasingHiggins Storm Chasing ↗ |
| Not the October 2025 storm | A separate event | Maryborough was hit by a different giant-hail storm on 2 October 2025, with 8 cm reported at Tinana. Search results frequently mix the two. | Rebuild Relief — Maryborough Hailstorm October 2nd 2025Rebuild Relief ↗ |
